The dates to apply for moose tags are different this year. The application period for the Primary Allocation is April 1 to 30. Get your applications in early!
Application deadline for the Primary Allocation is April 30, 2021
Tag quotas and hunt codes
Starting April 1, moose tag quotas and hunt codes will be available online at ontario.ca/moosequotas and by calling the automated phone line at 1-800-288-1155. Tag quotas are no longer published in the Hunting Regulations Summary. You will be able to find out the number of tags remaining available for the second chance allocation online or by phone as of June 15. Hunt codes for remaining tag types will remain unchanged between the primary and second chance stages.
Who can apply to the allocation process?
You can apply to the moose tag allocation process if you:
  • are an Ontario resident
  • have a valid Outdoors Card
  • have a hunter accreditation on file
  • are at least 15 years old
To apply to the allocation process, you will pay a $15 application fee, instead of having to purchase a licence to apply.
How to apply to the primary allocation
All hunters will apply to the tag allocation process as individuals. There are no group applications.
You are encouraged to keep a record of your application sales receipt or confirmation number for reference.
Any tags that aren’t applied for or claimed during the primary allocation stage will be available to be applied for in the second chance allocation stage starting June 15.
Allocation results fo the primary allocation will be available May 16. Hunters can check their
results through their online account or by calling the automated phone line at 1-800-288-1155.
How to claim a tag
If you are awarded a tag, you will need to decide whether to claim it. To claim a tag, you will need to purchase both a moose licence and the tag by the claim period deadline for it to be issued to you. Your points will reset to zero the following year when you claim a tag awarded in the primary allocation.
