Ontario’s hunter education course is now temporarily available online.

In-person classroom sessions were suspended on April 6 until further notice to ensure the safety of instructors and participants, but Ontario residents can now register at www.ohep.net to take part in a virtual option announced on Wednesday, July 15.

The course requires students to take the Saskatchewan online hunter education course before reviewing content online specific to Ontario (such as the Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary), and then completing the Ontario exam virtually with an Ontario instructor.

Move temporary

This is an interim measure – the Ontario Hunter Education Program (OHEP) will resume in-person classes once face-to-face gatherings can safely resume, officials stated.

The course provides accreditation to hunt with a bow. Those wishing to hunt with a gun must also have federal firearms accreditation, such as a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL).

Those who have not taken the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) must complete it when courses become available, officials noted.

The OHEP is administered by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF).
