Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD)

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been found in 30 US states and in Alberta, Manitoba, Québec and Saskatchewan, but it has not been detected in Ontario wildlife. And we want to keep it that way!
That’s why we’re taking the following actions to protect Ontario from CWD:
• Annual surveillance targeting high risk areas
• Regulations updated in 2021 include new restrictions for moving farmed cervids and making it illegal to bring any cervid parts into Ontario except:
-butchered, deboned and packaged meat
-a cleaned skull plate and antlers
-tanned hides and capes
-finished taxidermy mounts
• New prevention and response plan to help us respond if CWD is ever detected in Ontario.
