Know & Report Signs of CWD

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) has not been found in Ontario wildlife, but it has been found in all neighboring states and provinces.
Recently, cases have been detected less than 150 kilometers’ from our borders in Michigan and Minnesota, and less than 200 kilometers’ from our border with Manitoba — so it’s important to be vigilant.
CWD signs include:
• severe weight loss
• abnormal behavior like loss of fear of humans
• tremors, stumbling, lack of coordination or paralysis
These signs may have other causes, so testing is required to confirm CWD.
If you see these signs in a wild deer, moose, elk or caribou, take note of the location, take photographs or video if you are able to do so safely, and contact your local ministry work center at https://www.ontario.ca/…/ministry-natural-resources… or email cwd@ontario.ca
