Firearms program applications moving online

After decades of paper applications being the preference for initial firearms licence applications and renewals, the Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) process is moving towards accepting online applications.

First-time applicants (individuals, businesses, carriers, and shooting clubs and ranges) can submit and check the status of their licence applications online. The MyCFP inbox also allows applicants to communicate with the CFP quickly and securely. Additionally, safety course instructors may also enter Canadian Firearms Safety Course report results online.

“Digital first does not mean that we will no longer accept paper applications or client phone calls,” said Robin Percival, RCMP media relations. “Given the diverse needs of our clients, that is simply not possible; however, from a service delivery perspective, it means that we will design user-friendly services that are modern, simple and efficient.”
