Experience Waterfowl Hunting at Long Point Provincial Park
Long Point Provincial Park is the home base for the Long Point Waterfowl Management Unit (LPWMU). The LPWMU along with the OFAH facilitate a controlled waterfowl hunt in the Long Point Provincial Park marsh.
The LPWMU is operated on a first come first serve basis with a lineup system to allocate the approximate 40 hunting blinds (maximum 2 hunters) and shooting points (hunt from your boat, maximum 4 hunters). The lineup is in the day-use area of the provincial park. There is also a reservation system that can be used any hunting day after the opener there are no reservations on opening day. The reservation system works by filling out a reservation form (available at the unit office) a minimum of 2 weeks before your chosen hunting date. The reservation system is a random draw, and you will be notified by email if successful in the draw for your chosen date.
Most hunting spots are accessible by boat only, but there are walkout sites and accessible blinds when water levels allow.
History Of The Hunt
A provision of the agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources requires hunters participate in a mandatory reporting program.
Each person must return to the on-site Waterfowl Technician after completing their hunt and present their harvest from that morning for important data collection (the species, sex, age, and number of waterfowl harvested, etc.).
The information from these reports and standard migratory bird band reporting from Darlington Provincial Park waterfowl hunters, contributes to long-term monitoring and assessment programs throughout North America.
