Working for Hunters

Firearms play an important role in the lives of millions of Canadians. For over 90 years, the OFAH has championed the rights of hunters, anglers, and firearms owners, ensuring that our traditions and outdoor heritage are preserved for future generations.

The OFAH advocates for a balanced approach to firearms policy that respects the rights of lawful firearms owners while aiming to enhance public safety through targeted and effective measures, while also serving as a reliable source of information for hunters and firearms owners across Canada.

Our position on firearms is centered around several key principles:

Support for Responsible Firearm Ownership

The OFAH supports the rights of law-abiding citizens to own and use firearms responsibly and advocates for better enforcement of existing laws (including border security), pushes for investments in crime prevention, and opposes any measures that unfairly target lawful firearms owners.

Education and Safety Training

The OFAH strongly supports education and safety training for firearms owners. Proper training and education are crucial in promoting safe firearm handling, reducing accidents, and enhancing public safety. The OFAH works to instill a culture of safety and responsibility among hunters and all firearm owners.

Engagement with Policymakers

The OFAH actively engages with policymakers at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government to represent the interests of hunters and firearm owners. The OFAH provides input on legislative and regulatory proposals to ensure that the perspectives of the hunting community are given due consideration in the development of firearm policies.
