O.F.A.H. Conservation Centre Pond Our backyard is your backyard!
"Let's go fishing!" are the famous words that are bound to kick start a memorable family vacation or weekend adventure. However, senior citizens, people with special needs, and junior anglers are often not afforded these opportunities due to physical or financial limitations.
That's why, every year, hundreds of students, senior citizens, community groups and guests with special needs visit the O.F.A.H in Peterborough to participate in barrier free fishing at the office's stocked pond - where accessibility and money are no object.
"Fishing is a fundamental part of our Canadian heritage," said O.F.A.H. Executive Director Mike Reader, "and we're excited to offer residents, regardless of ability or disability, the opportunity to go fishing, in a safe and supervised environment."
The O.F.A.H. property boasts an impressive stocked pond, where anglers can try their luck fishing for bass, perch and sunfish and is flanked by two gazebos with picnic tables where guests are welcome to enjoy lunch or a snack.
Fishing equipment and instruction are provided free of charge through O.F.A.H. Tackle Share, however guests are asked to bring their own bait. For availability or to make a booking for your group, please contact the O.F.A.H. at giselle_hatton@ofah.org or (705) 748-6324 ext. 230.
Funding for this project was made possible through the generous support of local sponsorships and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.
